It still stands for awesome

About me:

My name is Jesse van Herk, and I'm a geek. But I also have some non-geeky qualities.

Interests

I am one of those geeks with outside interests! In no particular order, I like swimming, reading, drinking, dancing, Vegging, hiking, and having a good time in general. I can keep up a conversation, dance the tango, do somersaults, make lasagna, and program a VCR. I can do triple integrals, but usually choose not to.

Languages (the people kind)

I took several years of high-school french, with small amounts of practice since then, so I can speak it as well as can be expected from an Albertan anglophone. I have also taken some intro-level university Japanese courses backed up by independent study. My travels to latin America have also forced me to pick up some basic spanish, mostly of the "where is the bathroom" kind.

Travel

I really enjoy travelling, and have taken a couple of opportunities to do so. After graduating University, I went on a tour of Europe. In early 2006, I went backpacking in Cuba, which was an excellent experience. My goal is to hit every continent and as many countries as I reasonably can! In early 2007, Esther and I went to Mexico for a week and had a great time.

Here's a map of everywhere I have been thus far: world map
(map created at World66).

Geekiness

I'm a Computer Engineer In Training(APEGGA makes me say the last bit). I am currently working in Edmonton as a Systems developer/web applications programmer, working for Bioware. I am incredibly happy to be working for a company that people have heard of, especially one as awesome as this.

This website contains more than enough evidence of my geekiness, really. Go nuts, look around. I make webpages for fun, but only if I've run out of other fun things to do first.
